I admittedly am not much of a baker. I think partly its because I don't eat a lot of sweets myself and I find the work of making them is just...work! I own a kitchenaid mixer which is AWESOME to own but the first 2 places we lived have been short on counter space and the cupboards haven't been tall enough for it to fit underneath them (I have the professional kind) . So for now, I've loaned it out to my mom for awhile for her to use while I can't. But lately, I've been getting the baking bug. I found a place on my counter for it to stay and be used. I know Adam would LOVE it if I baked more since he has a sweet tooth and his mom is a big baker. We'll see how this goes...

motivation & time...

Adam and I enjoy going to the gym together. We typically go in the evenings after he gets home from work (which is about 7 pm now- he extended his hours). I much prefer going to the gym in the morning or midday but I know he wants to go with me and if I go before he gets home then he would still have to go in the evening- so I should just go with him anyways!

Well the past 10 days or so we have totally ruined our schedule. We still went on the weekends and worked out but mid week we definitely plop right down on the couch and watch the Olympics!! Seriously...every night. We go to bed pretty early though and wake up a little before 6 (I usually wake up a little after six).

Its always a little funny watching these extreme athletes compete at the expense of our own physical shape... well this week will be the last one...then its right back at it!

Scout's Honor

Adam and I love to watch the show Man Vs Wild with Bear Grylls. We both are somewhat fascinated by him and the more I find out about him the more I am impressed with who he is as a person. One of the things we love seeing is that sometimes in his show he actually gets scared just like a "normal" person but it is how he responds in situations of fear that are amazing. I think there is something to learn from him. It is human to experience fear but we should not let fear paralyze us- but rather give us the energy and focus to get through a situation.
Also, we had read that he was a Christian. From all I have seen and read about him this is a true conviction and he seems to have his priorities straight. I love this.

THEN- I just found out that back in July he became "Chief Scout" of the Boyscouts (the youngest ever). I have never been a part of that association but I have always respected it and the things they teach young boys. He says he is trying to do different visits with the different troops which brings me to my reason for this post..... It is at this moment that I wish I had a son who was in in boyscouts so that POSSIBLY we could get a visit from Mr Bear himself. That would be fun.

sick day thoughts

Well, apologies for slacking on the posting the last week...I guess I've been kinda busy! My new job is keeping me busy and I am so far happy with the schedule. We had a wonderful long weekend together and that was SO nice!! I was totally spoiled on Valentines day when Adam woke me up with Tulips, a latte from Coffee Bean, a sweet card, and pink doughnuts!! It was such a surprise and I love him so much!! Yesterday we went to the zoo for a couple of hours and then came home and rearranged the house a bit. Very refreshing and we love it!!

I've come down with a cough & cold so that's kinda a bummer...but what a nice treat to have the Olympics on all the time! We love it :-) And I especially love that Adam loves it just as much and doesn't complain that I have to watch every event!!!

I've got my eye on you....

SO, if you know me you know that I absolutely LOVE, ADORE, & CRAVE a good rain storm.

However, I am really not prepared whenever I get my wish for a nice good rain. I only just recently got a nice Northface jacket- more waterproof than anything else I have but it has No hood.

I also, don't own an umbrella.

But what I really struggle with is cold feet. wet feet. you get the picture. Wet pant legs 7 inches up...

I wear soggy old tennis shoes which don't do the trick at all.

What I really REALLY want for the next storm is a pair of these bad boys (see picture left).

They are so cute. So classic. So functional.

I want them in gray but I would happily take any color. Unfortunately, everyone else thinks they are cute too and they are way overpriced :-( HELP!!!!!

Entertainment

My friend Lauren (The Tiens...link to the right) inspired me with a post about entertainment! And since Adam and I like "media" so much I thought it was a wonderful idea and copied her! (now, if I could only get inspired enough to make those cookies you gave the recipe for...)

Anyhow,
TV: Thanks to DVR we can enjoy shows without having ours lives revolve around them. Then, whenever we feel the itch to veg a little we can watch our favorites!! Some of our "family favorites" are Man vs Wild, The Office (I'm not ready to give up on it yet but the last couple of shows have been below par...), The Soup (a show that takes snippets of all the weeks shows and makes fun of them generally...it is hilarious, and a great way to see the best part of what happened that week without wasting your time), SNL (I didn't grow up watching this show but the cast is so good right now, especially Kristen Wiig), Seinfeld re-runs of course, and tons of other shows that catch us on a whim. As for me, I record American Idol (Adam won't watch it with me right now but I think once they narrow it down he will watch some), and The Bachelor (I think I will ALWAYS watch that show as long as it is on...I just love it...I think Tenley is the cutest so far). And of COURSE: we always love the Olympics and Dodger Games when they are on!!

Music: We are total music junkies. What I like most about our music taste is that it is so HUGE. You name a genre- I can almost guarantee we listen to it. Rock, rap, instrumental, country, classical, Christian, etc etc etc :-)- its all good.

Movies: We also watch a ton of movies. It is so fun when you find a movie that is just SO good. Sometimes we see movies in the theaters, sometimes we rent them, and oftentimes if we like it we will buy them. We have no problem watching a movie more than once and do it quite often!
Some of our honorable mentions this year (or couple years, I don't keep track) have been: The Proposal, Music and Lyrics, & Love Happens. We also like some comedies once you get over the sometimes bad language. Some of the better dramas have been The Hurt Locker & Shooter.
(I know Adam would agree with me on this post but I'm sure he would add some of his own).

Best Play/Musical: Jersey Boys in Vegas
honorable mention: How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Panic

Do you ever worry that your grocery store (mine is Trader joes, but these are from Costco) will stop carrying one of your "staples"? I do. One of our staples right now is these apple and gouda cheese chicken sausages from Costco. They are FABULOUS- low cal, high protein, low fat, no nitrates/nitrites, completely natural. And not to mention they are so so so yummy. Adam and I eat them almost too much- seriously, they work for breakfast with eggs, lunch, or dinner with some veggies. You can thrown them in soup or on a salad, or just eat them plain. I am in LOVE.
I just wonder: how long will they be stocked in the shelves??
